This workshop is an introduction to Whole Heart Connection practices and is open to new students who have not taken any other Whole Heart Connection workshops.

An Expanded Sense of Safety

Safety is a critical limiting factor in many people’s lives.  Many decisions are made, and many dreams and desires are either pursued or kept indefinitely on hold, because of concerns about safety.  Many times a day, we choose one path rather than another, based on our sense of safety.

What is safety, and how can we tell when we are safe?  Despite the crucial importance of this question, few people know how to answer it for themselves.  It is common for many people to live in a vague yet unrelenting sense of unease, never being quite sure what is safe and what isn’t, especially around other human beings.

This mini-workshop is dedicated to practices that help us return to our natural capacity to assess safety, and more importantly to begin creating more safety for ourselves. Over time, we are able to remain feeling safe and resourced in more and more challenging situations.

Thea’s teaching voice both whispers and shouts of her experience and wisdom, giving me the supportive nourishment to keep asking the better questions. Those questions are… within myself… with my patients… with life itself. These works encourage me. They remind me of why I want to be a practitioner, still, after 20 years. They also explain so much of what I have already encountered and what could be yet to come. These writings help me value my own capacity to deepen, to be still, to bring forth an open heart for medicine that is not always curative but yet transformative and loving.

Whole Heart Connection for Personal and Social Healing

These are tools for fostering equality even in the midst of social power imbalance, and for becoming effective agents of social change without courting burn-out. In fact, Whole Heart Connection will do more for your health than you would have believed possible in such difficult times.

Whole Heart Connection practices draw upon aikido, Chinese medicine, and Sufism, all of which teach us that healthy change takes place on a me-first basis. Our goal is the well-being of entire communities, and so we are committed to fostering personal health every step of the way. There is no division between being an activist and taking care of ourselves.

Perennial Medicine’s Commitment to Social Justice

At Perennial Medicine, we are committed to addressing the roots and manifestations of socially constructed power imbalances without shaming, blaming, or oversimplification. We understand that social justice is a very complex topic, and we welcome people who are at different stages of exploring all the ways that we might create a more fair and equitable world together.
