Whole Heart Whiteness
Baltimore, MD – November 2-3, 2019
Whole Heart Connection practices form a powerful basis for white-skinned people to bring their concerns about racial injustice from abstract values to practical embodiment. WHC skills guide us in establishing Group Heart space where we can support each other on a me-first basis into anti-racist healing work, internally and externally.
First, grounded and heart-centered WHC skills create a resilient healing context for connecting with the many feelings that come up when we approach a topic as painful as racism. For many white-skinned people, racial issues may bring up emotions as diverse as fear, confusion, despair, conflict, guilt, or rage (or other emotions). This can make it difficult even to get started on discussion, let alone action! Through WHC, we can begin to heal these initial “barrier emotions” not only in ourselves, but on a me-first basis within the collective. Results can be very dramatic!
As we begin to feel easier and more free and alive in our own bodies around these topics, we are able to consider from within Group Heart how we personally can step into our communities (and even our one-on-one interactions) differently, as powerful allies for healing and change.
Thea Elijah is a white-skinned Jewish convert to Islam, and the developer of WHC. She treasures the growth that happens when we are working together for everyone’s health and justice.
Thea has been a student of Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture for over 30 years. She is the former director of the Chinese Herbal Studies Program at Tai Sophia Institute and the Chinese Herbal Studies Program at the Academy for Five Element Acupuncture.
