Many people who come to my classes hear me say, “Alhamdulillah” and “Inshallah” along with other references to Sufism. Nobody needs to be on the Sufi path in order to get a lot out of my Whole Heart Connection and Chinese medicine classes, but it is an important part of my background, and so a few references filter in here and there.
Have you been curious about it?
This is an opportunity for people who are unfamiliar with Sufism to ask me general questions: “What is this? What is that? What are you really talking about?”
It is also a time and a place for people already on the Sufi path to bring Sufi questions – especially people who are newly on the path who might be thinking, “You know, I’ve heard people say this-or-that, but what do they mean?”
I know from my own experience of having been a newcomer on the Sufi path that not everyone’s metaphors are equally accessible to everyone. Early on, it is important to find teachers who speak your natural language, because there is a lot of experiential inner territory for which it is difficult to find words. We are different map makers mapping the same territory.
When a bumblebee looks at a flower, it sees colors that we do not see. When a mule looks at a flower, it just eats it. Within the infinity of Sufism, I make an offering of my expressive style – coming up with words and metaphors and maps in order to navigate that otherwise unspeakable existential territory.
Come join us – as a curious person, a seriously interested person, or as a deeply committed person. I hope to see you there.
Please note, it is not recommended that participants divide their focus by taking extensive notes. In order to allow participants to relax into the discussion, we will make an audio recording which will be shared only with participants. The purpose of the recording will be to remind participants of what they learned. The recording will not be available for those who were not present in the class.
In the (very rare) event of a workshop cancellation, all tuition will be refunded.
Otherwise, any refund is at the sole discretion of Perennial Medicine.
