What does it mean to have been born into our particular family of origin? In order to answer this question fully, we may begin by looking at the influences of our own nuclear family—but we must not stop there! As children, the influences of immediate family are paramount; they form our matrix for knowing ourselves. In adolescence, the emergence of our own reproductive capacities opens a doorway into our individual manifestation of the infinite resources of our ancestry. This allows us, as adults, to find our own direction as a flowering of capacities that come to us from much further back than our own parents, and have the power to carry us much further forward.
